Hi this is Steve from Ken Jones Tires. Today I want to talk about how to buy tractor tire chains. No matter what equipment you operate, here are some general guidelines for buying chains. Clearance First you need to know if you have enough clearance for chains. Clearance requirements vary on different types of equipment, but usually is a minimum of 3 inches. Clearance is not usually a problem with tractor tires. Tire Size The next thing you need to know is your tire size. But be aware that one size tire chain may fit one or two tire sizes. Work Environment Next, you need to consider your work environment. Is it hilly, icy? Are you operating in the woods or rough terrain? This may determine what chain style and durability may be required. Tire Tread What type of tread design are your tires? Are they standard lug or are they turf? Tread designs determine the style chain that will work best for you. Turf tires require minimal chain, but lug tires require chain that will sit on top of the treads. Price And last but not least of course is price. A good tire chain supplier will give you options. So clearance, Tire Size, Work Environment, Tire Tread and Price are all important factors to consider... Tire chain buying can be confusing and it is always good to have an expert a phone call away.
