Tire Chains Are the Solution for Skid Steers
If you don’t know by now, skid steer loaders and snow don’t mix. It’s a great idea. Skid steers are probably the most versatile pieces of equipment ever invented.
You can do everything with them. But you add hard pack snow and ice, and you just gonna spin you wheels (no pun intended). You’re pretty much going nowhere.
We get calls daily from frustrated skid steer operators. “What can you get me?”, “I want the best you got”, “I need studded ice chain” etc, etc… Here’s a little secret. Any chain will make a world of difference. A 4 link, twist link ladder chain such as Roadboss or Roller Grip will do the job especially on concrete and asphalt.
Ice studded chain can be overkill. And it will do some amazing damage if you’re plowing a parking lot and decide to have some fun and spin those wheels!
If your machine has zero clearance between the tires and fender or body, you should consider Screw In Ice Studs.
If you have ever driven a car with snow tires and studs versus just snow tires, you’ll know what I’m talking about. Stopping and starting are a whole lot better with studs.
So if you want your skid steer to perform at its best on hard pack snow or ice, try a set of tire chains or Ice Studs. You won’t be disappointed.
Have a great week
