One of the real gems in the tire chain industry is a brand called Roller Grip. These chains are made to fit light truck, large truck, loaders, farm and industrial tractors. We like Roller Grip chains because they are assembled locally, can be custom made fit to any size tire, they make sizes that no one else makes (mid-sized tractor sizes) and in the truck market, they come in a Good, Better and Best options. All Roller Grip chains come with a patented “notched” cross chain that allows the user to switch out broken cross chains BY HAND. You read that correctly…BY HAND…no tools, torches etc. to fight with. Take a look at the diagram. This is precisely why cities and towns love them. They keep extra cross chains and hooks on hand so when a cross chain wears out and snaps, all they have to do is loosen the chain and slide the hooks in and add a new cross chain! Roller Grip chains are popular on plow trucks, garbage trucks and fire trucks…any machine that needs to operate in the harshest, hilly street conditions.

Also, take a look at the swivel hooks in the diagram. The cross chains are not permanently fixed to the side chains. This allows the cross chain to turn, which extends the lifetime of the cross chain 4 to 1 over standard fixed (one-sided wear) cross chain.

Regarding truck chains, Roller Grip is made in GOOD, BETTER and BEST. The difference is in the cross chain. GOOD is for highway and light duty, BETTER is for plowing & towing and BEST uses a square link cross chain made of harder metal which lasts longer and give it a better biting grip.
