Growing Up Quick
This might be a little off topic, but I’ve got to say that kids today are so much more advanced than I was when I was a kid. It really is amazing.
A couple times a year I encourage my two children to work a day or two on their vacation weeks. It gets them out of their comfortable home environment and brings them into the “big” city to see reality.
They actually see that the money doesn’t come from the money tree in the back yard, and parents have to work long hours to pay for the extras.
So I give them little projects to do and hope for the best. To my surprise they are quite capable of doing anything I give them including staying on task with little supervision. I guess I could brag and say my kids are better than other kids, but I don’t think so. I think kids today deserve more credit than we give them.
Rather than start the conversation with, ” Well, when I was a kid…..” and proceed to say how easy it is today versus when we were kids, I’m going to think about how more advanced kids are today versus when I was a kid.
I’m very proud of them and they sure do grow up quick!
