Check Your Tires this Holiday Season

Being a tire guy, I’m always checking out peoples tires while sitting at a red light or walking in a parking lot. (I know, pretty exciting stuff!). It’s just a habit, I hope. But I must say it’s amazing how many tires are in poor condition. It’s also surprising that a lot of these tires are on high end luxury vehicles. So, is it the bad economy or just a lack of concern of the owners? Those four tires on your car can save your life or take it!

I was reading Crain Communications’ Tire Business News this morning which contained a new survey which stated, “…more than 11 percent of U.S. motorists are driving on a least one bald tire.”…”drivers may be delaying necessary vehicle maintenance to save costs, but that delay may cost you more dearly if worn-out tires lead to a crash with injuries or fatalities.”(RMA-Rubber Manufacturers Assoc)

This time of year it’s even more critical to take a look at your tires. Holiday travel combined with wet rain, snow and ice are sure to increase the danger on the roads. Bald tires will hydroplane which can cause you to lose control of your vehicle and crash.

The bottom line is, there may be some car maintenance issues you can delay, but tires are not one of them. Please take a moment to check your tires this week. The minimum tread depth in most states is 2/32 inch. Most tires have wear bars in the tread groves that show you when your tires are worn out.

Have a great week!
